I am Ellen, a paediatric Speech and Language Therapist, based in Farnham, Surrey. Supporting families in Farnham, Aldershot, Farnborough, Guildford, Alton, Godalming and surrounding areas.
Every child deserves the right to communication and therefore communication should be accessible for everyone. I encourage and support children to be different and to embrace their strengths.
My approach is personal and tailored to each individual. Creating a team around your child by working closely with families, carers and professionals, to ensure each individual receives the very best support.
I have experience working with children and young people from 2 - 18 years old. In many paediatric settings including, mainstream and complex need schools, nurseries, drop-in clinics, early years, hospital clinics, fluency clinics and voice clinics. I graduated with an MSci in Speech and Language Therapy from the University of Reading. I am a member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
I believe children learn best through play – when they don’t even realise they are learning! I strive to encompass this in my creative, play-centred sessions, whilst implementing evidenced-based, up-to-date knowledge of speech, language, and communication interventions. My therapy is always child-led and focuses on neurodiversity-affirming practices.
I have experience in the following interventions:
Who can I support?
As a speech and language therapist I focus on communication and all the different associated aspects. From speech skills to language skills, comprehension skills, attention skills, sensory processing and regulation, social skills and fluency skills. I work with children as young as 2 years old helping to develop early communication skills.
I can support children with a range of communication difficulties such as:
I can support parents, carers, school and nursery staff in creating a communication friendly environment. I have experience offering coaching to parents and supporting nurseries and schools in creating an inclusive and diverse environment for all children.
What does therapy look like?
Assessment and therapy can take place at your child’s home, educational setting or in my therapy room.
Why does therapy look like you are just playing with my child?
Children learn best when they do not realise they are learning. Play provides vast opportunities for communication, whether that communication is expressed through eye gaze, gesture or talking. Play allows a child to explore the world around them, to share attention with you and to engage. So, whilst it may look as though I am just playing with your child, every toy and activity will be encouraging and developing your child’s communication skills.
